Seven Golf Players to Join SEA Games

Seven golf players was selected Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen Cup 2011 which take three days competition in Siem Reap from 13 to 15 May.

The event was organized by the Cambodian golf Federation in cooperation with the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and Ministry of Tourism to select best players as well as select golf players for SEA Games that will take in Indonesia.

Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of NOCC, said that seven golf players have been selected from Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen Cup 2011 on 15 May this Sunday to prepare for participate SEA Games in November.

He added that there are two steps to select best golf players for preparation to join SEA Games. First step, 85 amateur golf players from government officials, companies, basemen, and other Cambodian golf players both come from inside and outside country come to compete. After competition, 20 best golf players selected. These 20 players came to compete in the second step and finally seven players were selected. They are Seng Vabseiha (number one), Patrick Tom (number two), Ly Hong (number three), Lee Hong (number four), Meng heang (number five), Moun Saron (number six) and Kim Samrach (number seven).

He stressed that the golf players who ranked from number one to number seven will go to prepare for tournament for international competition that will coming soon. “It is the first time that Cambodian golf players join international event”

H.E. Eth Sarath, Secretary General of Cambodian Golf Federation, said that all tournaments implement the law of Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A) and local Rules of Phokeethra club.

He stressed that this tournament is very important for all golf players. Firstly, all golf players who participate in this tournament receive handicap which recognize by United States Golf Association (USGA), so they have a right to play in other golf club or aboard, because this kind of sport do not allow players who have never train to play in golf club. Second, this tournament is promoting all people across to play as well as develop golf in Cambodia. The third, it is a selecting opportunity for all golf players in Cambodia to join SEA Games as well as prepare for competition.
