The Boeung Kak Development Project Start its Construction

The Boeung Kak Development Project was officially opened its construction sits on July 11 under presided over by H.E. Kep Chuk Tema, Phnom Penh Governor.

H.E. Kep Chuk Tema said that after the Boeung Kak Development project finished, it will become a satellite city of Cambodia which concentrated to commercial centers, supermarkets, travel and leisure, hotels, schools, hospital and other constructions to promote the development of tourism in Cambodia, national socio-economic development, economic development in Phnom Penh.

He mentioned that this project is naturally affecting the residents, but most of the issues has been solved already, which there is small part of problem need to solve. Phnom Penh municipal government will be based on the Government's position to resolve these issues.

He also showed that Phnom Penh was basin and lower than sea level caused by many lakes such as Boeung Techo (Central Market’s today), Boeung Raing, Boeung Keng Kang, Ou Russey and other lasks. So there is a challenge to develop such kind of reclaimed land in order to develop city.

Lok Okhna Lav Van, Chief Director of Sukaku Inc. said that Boeung Kak was natural lak with total size of 133 ha both lake and surrounding area. Among them, there are 10 villages in 104 ha which has 303 groups situated in Sangkat Boeung Kak 1, Boeung 2 of Khan Toul Kork and Sangkat Srah Chak of Khan Daun Penh. With approved by the Council for development of Cambodia and Capital Hall on master plan of Boeung Kak, the company had planned to turn these area into Boeung Kak satellite city.

He added Boeung Kak will become business center, department store conference halls, amusement parts, clubs, hotels, universities, hospitals, housing complex, resorts and other infrastructures.

“I would like to convey his deepest gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia and residents to collaborate and volunteer to move from this area which expressed the understanding manner and helped to facilitate in the working process until today in purpose to develop economy and uplift the Capital’s image as a Pearl City in Asia,” he stated.

Phnom Penh municipal government will work in close cooperation with Shukaku Inc in this project in order to turn this area to become a satellite city of Phnom Penh,

In 1987, Boeung Kak area become a tourist area. However, in 1993, many people continue to migrate to there with the illegal residence, illegal occupation of land and the construction of buildings. Therefore, the Cambodian government in 2005 decided to approve the Phnom Penh government and Sukaku Inc. Company implemented this project since 2007, Phnom Penh municipal and the company to resolve the affected residents about four years. So far, Boeung Kak development project to commence its construction.
