CMAGC Vote for 2nd Executive Committee Members

The first General Assembly of Cambodia Martial Arts Game Committee (CMAGC) has held at National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) on October 21st to sum up all works in 2001-2010.

The General Assembly persisted over by H.E. Gen. Nim Sovath ,director general of the Ministry of Defense and President of Cambodia Martial Arts Game Committee; H.E Rat Sakhon, director of VOVINAM Federation; San Kimsen, director of Bokator Federation; Nam Ram Ravuth, director of Aikido Federation and representative from 11 members of Cambodia Martial Arts Game Committee.

H.E. Gen. Nim Sovath said at open ceremony that the general assembly is initiated under the warm environment with solidarity, developmental consciousness and glorious consciousness of integrating national culture and international culture together.

He added that Cambodia Martial Arts Game Committee has formed 10 years already. First time has only three federations, but now it has 11 federations, it shows that Cambodia Martial Arts is very fast in developing. The forming of Cambodia martial arts started by willingness and love of each different source of sports, but they stay together.

“It is a thankful for all instructors that try to improve, develop and continue to train athletes and resulted in many kinds of sports in Cambodia with admitting from local and international world especially a new sport, Bakator that we try to research and form it, he noted.

He stated that Cambodia Martial Arts Game Committee provides an opportunity for all martial arts trainer and athletes meet each others and work together to develop sport sector in Cambodia.

Cambodia Martial Arts Game committee has 11 members: Boxkator Federation, Karate-Do Federation, Aikido Federation, KuBuDo Federation, World Taekwondo Federation, International Taekwondo Federation, Panchak Seila Federation, WuShu Federation, Vovinam Federation, Konggimodo Federation and Habkido Federation.

Boxkator has formed since 24 April 2004 with supported by H.E Nim Sovath. In 2004-2005, Boxkator join 23th SEA Game at Philippine and got the third champion. This is the first time that Boxkator brings champion to Cambodia after it disappears over 2000 years. In 2008, Boxkator registered as the full member of World Marital Arts Union (WoMAU) that has 33 members included Cambodia. It is Khmer reputation that has Kbach Kun Boran listed into World Heritage and prevented by UNESCO and others NGOs. On November 30 to 3 October, Boxkator also joined performance with 33 countries and join competition with 12 countries. As the result, Boxkator got second champion, Mr. San Kimsen reported in the general assembly.

Aikido is a new sport for Cambodia, but around 120 countries already became member of Aikido that has head quarter in Japan. Cambodia Aikido was formed by Mr. Nam Ravuth cooperated with Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and JICA to run it and form successfully at the end of 2002. Cambodia Aikido has supported by Japan through providing teachers and equipments. Nowadays, Aikido federation has clubs at Olympic stadium, high school and some other places. It also plans to create clubs at university level. Cambodia Aikido also attend workshop in Thailand, Lao PRD and Vietnam, reported by Aikido representative.

KuBuDo is original source of sport from Okinawa of Japan. In training, They use weapons such as Bo, Sai, Kama, Tonfa, Kunchaku, Eku, Tekko, and other weapons. Cambodia receives this sport recent year and form it as federation in the beginning of 2009. By the way, it is a new sport for Cambodia, so it has no much achievement.

Panchak Seyla is a sport from Indonesia and over 100 countries in world practice it also included Cambodia. This sport formed in Cambodia since 2007, it is also a new sport for Cambodia. As the result, Panchak Seyla Federation sent 6 athletes to study at Indonesia on July September, 2007. In the same, they also participate in the competition in Malaysia. Now, Vovinam federation has 21 clubs and 751 students.

Cambodia formed Kongimodo as federation in 2008, but it has promoted since 2007. Now it has 650 students in training and 50 percent as female. It also has clubs through the provinces. The athletes participated in world cup 2007 and got six medals for country too. For Taekwon-Do ITF federation has 24 clubs as the members with 1353 students in training. It tend to take 3 clubs more as the part while they summit the form as the member. For Taekwon-Do WTF became international member since 1973, but it had problem. In 1995, it summit form to become member again. Before it had 33 clubs as members, but now it has only 17 clubs and now try to improve them. In recent year, Habkido has clubs to train and have 2155 students in training. Vovinam is a martial in Vietnam and form in Cambodia as Vovinam Federation on Nomember 19, 2007. It had nine clubs and involved in international competition two times.

At the end of general assembly, it was an event to vote for 2nd executive committee member of Cambodia Martial Arts Game Committee. As the result, H.E. Gen. Nim Sovath as president, H.E. Rat Sakhon, San Kinsen and Nam Rauth as Vice-president, Vath Chamroeun as secretary general and Hem Samnang as deputy of secretary general.
