Cambodian Horse Rider to Attend International Championship

Sim Narith rides a horse for exercising before he goes to attend the international championship in Bangkok, Thailand

Three horse riders from the Cambodian Equestrian Federation (CEF) will go to attend international championship, which will held on December 11th-12th in Bangkok, Thailand.

The preparation for joining competition is organized by Cambodian Equestrian Federation under the sponsorship of Haggar, Horseware Ireland, Coca Cola and Cominkhmer.

Mr. Guillaume Larivain, Manager of Cambodia Country Club (CCC) riding, said that the purpose of attending the sport tournament in Thailand is to observe the techniques from others riders, get experiences through competition and be full skill in horse riding. One more important is to get ready for Asian Games next year. “This is the first time for his federation, also Cambodian horse rider to join international championship,” he said. “In time to time, they join only national championship likes the Norodom Sihanouk Championship.”

He added that the competition will give a good opportunity for Cambodian riders to experience the international level and new environment. Moreover, it will provide a chance to develop the skills and the needs of practice in the horse rider. CEF will send three Cambodian raiders to join this tournament. They are mature rider, Hoy Soparith, seventeen- year old rider, Sim Narith and fourteen-year old, Lon Sopheartra. Next time, he will take fi ve riders to join this kind of competition.

Mr. Hoy Soparith, a riding instructor at the CEF, said that he worked with the CCC in 2006 and eventually introduced to sport of horse riding with a great love for this sport. Afterward, he developed the horse riding skills and skilled equestrian in teaching children to ride horse.

He remarked that the horses that will take to compete are an unknown horse. He do not know what is it attitude and how it jump. If it is not a good jumper, it is difficult for him to get the champion. These horses are different from the horse he trains every day. The horse that he trains everyday he can know which the horse can jump 1.2m or 1.1m and know the attitude of the horse so that it is easy for him to control the horse. Competition is a hard level for him to challenge, because he cannot take his horse along with. In contact, he can take his own horse to compete, but he has to pay a high cost included horse visa fee, health horse check fee, horse transportation fee and so on. But it does not mean he has no hope for win, the hope still stay along him with the experience, techniques and knowledge he studied in Cambodia, he emphasized.

Sim Narith, 16, who study riding horse five years since he was introduced to horse riding. Without interested in horse especially horse riding, he start to love ride the horse. In 2009, he participate competition and get number one among foreigners. He won the champion again in 2010 that known as the Norodom Sihanouk Championship. “Horse riding is not the matter of winning or losing but it is about how happy in riding horse. I hope that I will also win the coming up competition even though this is my first time to join the international championship, because I already went to visit competition place last year and my coach will go along with me to encourage in competition,” he told The Southeast Asia Weekly. In the further, Narith wants to be a famous professional horse rider in Cambodia, but he also wants to be manager as education aspect.
