The Cambodia and Thailand Information Technology Working Group was meeting together to launch the fourth Joint Technical Committee Meeting under the MOU between Thailand and Cambodia on cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting over three days from 5 to 6 June in Phnom Penh.
H.E Thach Phan, Secretary of State for Cambodian Ministry of Information, said that it is the second time which held such meeting in Cambodia which the first time was held in Siem Reap in 2008. “Although it does not bring a very high results after implement the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting between Cambodia and Thailand, but it help foster better understanding and relation between the people of the two countries.”
Mrs. Ladavan Bua Aim, Deputy Director General of Public Relation Department (PRD) at National Broadcasting Services of Thailand, said that Cambodia and Thailand have enjoyed close cooperation at all levels to the economic and social development of the two countries and the region.
“Apart from working together, we have several bilateral mechanisms include the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, the Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary, the Gender Border Committee, and the Regional Border Committee,” Mrs. Ladavan Bua Aim mentioned.
In November 2010, PRD hosted a Thai-Cambodia Friendship Concert in Bangkok which was very successful and attracted a great number of people.
The two countries agreed to exchange Thai and Cambodian journalists and promote cultural exchange. Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand will launch a program for the exchange of Thai-Cambodia journalists in response to the agreement.
Base on the “Community Connectivity” idea launched in 2009, Cambodia and Thailand could toward realizing an ASEAN community in 2015. The MOU on cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting is considered a major mechanism to contribute to community building efforts.
Cambodia and Thailand signed the MOU on the cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting on the 8 February 2006.
