Cambodia Airport Expanded its Areas

By Sok Lak

To further upgrade the capacity of its facilities and the increasing flight in Cambodia, a series of works targeting the boundary fence and the canal system located at the northwestern front of the airport, along National Road NÂș 4, were undertaken in the end of 2008. The overhaul of the whole area, including landscaping, which makes it user-friendly, is now completed.

An inauguration ceremony unveiling the new infrastructure, presided by Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chuktema, took place on December 6 at Phnom Penh International Airport.

The 2,310-meter boundary fence covers the airport’s northwestern facade from Chom Chao roundabout to its main public entrance. The fencing project complies with security and safety standard set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Concurrently, the walkway along the fence, with a surface area of 7,400 square meters, was revamped and landscaping carried-out. The project started from 27 June 2008 and spent US$805,246.

Another renovation of the airport’s infrastructure includes the building of a new 2,200-meter canal system to facilitate drainage and water flow management, in particular during the monsoon season. “With that system connected with Phnom Penh city’s canal network, the airport and neighboring communities had successfully managed the handling of this year’s challenging flooding,” Emmanuel Menanteau, CEO of Cambodia Airports said.

HE Kep Chuktema, Phnom Penh Governor, said that it is another new achievement for Phnom Penh in 2011.  “This new areas which is beautiful will attract more international tourist to visit Cambodia.”
