Duties + Requirements
	Graphic Designer   Duties Reporting to Assistant to Publisher, his or her responsibilities include Design layout pages and cover for publications Design artwork such as products, packaging, advertisement, magazine and web page design; Design map on request, using GIS mapping Design all kinds of materials, including name cards, logos, leaflets, reports, brochures, banners, diaries, etc. as assigned Take photographs, adjust and airbrush photographs as needed Manage and supervise work of design team, including making action plan and monitor implementation Coordinate printing works with printing houses Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor and management   Requirements Degree in Computer Sciences, majoring in Creative Design or equivalent in related field Proven creative skills through portfolio of design work Proven experience in professional graphic design and/or printing process Ability to take photographs with creative image composition Excellent proficiency in Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, and other design software; proficiency in GIS mapping is a plus Good command of English in both writing and speaking Good organizational and communication skills, willing to learn and work in a team Flexible and hard working, able to repeatedly meet deadlines under pressure Always able to travel around Phnom Penh and to provinces

The Impact of Soaring Food and Fuel Prices on Cambodia’s Livelihoods

Many Cambodians are feeling the effects of rising food and fuel prices, especially those who spend a big amount of their income on food and fuel.

According to the data from National Institute of Statistics (NIS), the total consumer prices increased by 4.9 percent from December 2010 to December 2011. Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 6.2 percent. It also showed that the price of meat increased by 17.4 percent. The main increase in the meat group was due to an increase the price of pork, which jumped by 22.7 percent. The price of beef rose by 16.2 percent and the price of duck increased by 7.9 percent. Moreover, the price of gasoline increased 11 percent and the price of diesel jumped by 15.4 percent.

More specifically, the main price increases occurred in food and nonalcoholic beverages, clothing and footwear, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, furnishing, household maintenance, transportation, restaurants and miscellaneous goods and services.

A World Bank report from late November, East and Pacific Economic Update 2011, said that the consumer price inflation rose 6.7 percent in September 2011 from a year earlier with a nearly half of the increase attributed to food alone and the inflation rate fell slightly from 7.1 June 2011.

Indian Bank to Boost Investment in Cambodia

Relations between Cambodia and India have become stronger recently with growth in trading between the two countries that has grown faster after the financial crisis in 2008-2009.

In 2011, the total volume of trade rose to US$71.92 million, an increase of 42.16 percent, while the number exports from India reached US$63.91 million, up 41.33 percent, and the number imports to India jumped to US$8.01 million, an increase of 58.57 percent 

compared to last year.

Cambodia mainly exports non-ferrous metals to India while the main exports of India to Cambodia are drugs, pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, cotton, staple fibers, rubber articles, precious stones, transport equipment and machinery, instruments, etc.

With the increasing flow of trade between the two countries and the rapid growth of Cambodia’s economy combined with its political stability, the Bank of India’s branch in Phnom Penh is seeking to expand its operations by moving its office to a bigger place at Icon Department to facilitate the expansion of business and attract more investors.

New Zealand Assists Education Development in Cambodia

As education is a major factor when it comes to boosting a country’s development, New Zealand is assisting in the development of education in Cambodia as part of an overall attempt at boosting economic development and the bilateral relationship between Cambodia and New Zealand.

Over the last five years, New Zealand has invested over US$5.5 million in human resources development in Cambodia.

With New Zealand’s support, five senior Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials successfully completed the Senior English Language Training Programme in New Zealand in 2011.

In 2012, 12 Cambodians were awarded opportunities to undertake postgraduate studies in New Zealand while 10 students with the English Language Training Official (ELTO) program departed to study at the beginning of 2012. Moreover, 25 Cambodians have commenced English language training in Cambodia in order to undertake the New Zealand ASEAN Scholarship (NZAS) in New Zealand in 2013. The NZAS scheme assists citizens of ASEAN countries including Cambodia to gain relevant knowledge, skills, and qualifications in priority development sectors such as agriculture, economic development, business, disaster risk management, tourism and renewable energy in which the long-standing ELTO program provides 20 places per year for Cambodian government officials to study English.

4th UK Education Fair

SpringBoard4Cambodia with the support of the British Embassy in Phnom Penh is holding the 4^th UK Education Fair on 1 February 2012 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Fair will be opened by the British Ambassador, HE Mr. Mark Gooding, and HE Mr. Pit Chamnan, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Kingdom of Cambodia. 21 British educational institutions will take part in the Fair.

Commenting on the Fair, British Ambassador Mark Gooding said, “I am delighted that over 20 British universities and colleges are participating in this year’s UK Education Fair. The UK is world renowned for excellence in education and skills. UK universities and colleges have an outstanding reputation for their diversity, research and innovation. The UK has produced over 70 Nobel prize winners, and is home to four of the top ten universities in the world. That’s why nearly 400,000 students come to the UK from around the world to study each year. The Education Fair is a good opportunity for Cambodians students to find out what’s available, and how they can access the courses that best meet their needs.”

The objective of the Fair is to give Cambodian students information on higher educational opportunities in the United Kingdom. Participating British educational institutions reflect the UK’s renowned reputation for producing talent and nurturing its skills base. The UK is home to four of the world’s top universities, with over 70 Nobel Prizes under its belt and offers high quality courses for a range of employers.

The Fair will highlight the importance of education in a knowledge-based world, which demands a highly-skilled workforce to sustain, develop and diversify. During the Fair, members of the British Chevening Alumni Association of Cambodia, who have studied in the UK, will be available to share their great experiences of studying in the UK with other Cambodian students.

The Fair will also include international debating championship between students from the UK, Cambodia and Vietnam. This is the first international debating championship with participation of students from the UK. The debates will be participated by 6 overseas teams consisting of 18 international students from 10 different nationalities; 5 of the overseas teams are from London, Leeds, Sheffield and Bristol in the UK, and one from Vietnam. There will be 12 Cambodian University teams participating in the debates.
