Private Sector Support Cambodian Athletes for Upcoming SEA Games

Private partners vowed to help and encourage Cambodian athletes through offering cash awards for those athletes who win gold medals for the upcoming SEA Games in Indonesia later this year.


The National Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and Private Company, Naga world on August 18 inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support Cambodia athletes who will join 26th SEA Games which held on November 11 to 22, 2011 in Indonesia and 27th SEA Games which will held in Myanmar. The MOU signed by Vath Chamroun, Secretary General of NOCC and Pern Chen, Executive Director of Naga world under the witness by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Ministry of Tourism and also President of NOCC.

In the MOU, Nage world promised to provide sport materials to athletes who will join SEA Games in 2011 and 2013 with additional US$3,000 financial support for an athlete who obtains a goal medal and US$ 5,000 for team winning a goal medal. H.E. Thong Khon, said that this first time NOCC accepts local sponsorship for SEA Games. “Since the NOCC reformed its work, we have launched a policy to raise fund to support sport activities through considering private as target sport market and sport industry.”

“To participate in the regional competition this year, we have been trying since the beginning of the year to set plans, monitor the training and think of essential strategies to build national reputation on the international stage,” he said. “It shall be a role model for other private partners, companies, and generous donors to further help build the potential and the reputation of the nation through sport sector,” he stressed.

Mr. Pern Chen, said that Naga world is proud to partner with NOCC for the upcoming 26th SEA Games in Indonesia in November and the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar 2013. “We believe that sports are important to a country as it inspires people, and seeing our athletes perform in the SEA Games which will also create a sense of national pride. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts in supporting the nation and we hope that our support will spur our Cambodian athletes to go for gold,” Chen added In the campaign, his company will outfit the Cambodia SEA Games contingent as they includes providing all athletes, coaches and official with track suits, polo tees, caps and team bags. “The company also award NOCC US$500 for every gold medal achieved by the Cambodian SEA Games in 2011 and 2013,” Chen stressed.
